The Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie together with his Deputy, Mr. John M. Allotey, executive management team and some commissioners of forestry commission, Chiefs and traditional leaders of Klagon, officials of the Tema Development Company, the Tema West Municipal Assembly, and Security Services paid a visit to the Sakumo Ramsar site  to ascertain the level of encroachment on the Ramsar Site, and take informed decisions on how to halt further encroachment of the site.

The Chief Executive expressed worry at the level of the invasion and violation of the site, as the encroachment is a major setback to the Commission’s vision of developing the area into a modern wetland-based ecotourism facility for the country. He warned that his outfit will not tolerate any further intrusion.

The Chief of Klagon, Nii Bortey Klan attested to the fact that the Ramsar Site belongs to the Government of Ghana and no chief has any right to sell any portion of the site. He pledged his unending support to assist the Forestry Commission ensure that further encroachment of the site is halted.
